Our

Story.

Welcome.

William Hines Wines is a family estate in the Sta. Rita Hills of Santa Barbara County, built on the conviction that a single hillside, farmed with precision and explored with genuine curiosity, can yield Pinot Noir that tastes like nowhere else.

Founded by William “Bubba” Hines and built alongside his wife Donna and their three children, their Drum Canyon Vineyard represents a decade of study, experimentation, and an unrelenting passion for Burgundian-style wine.

our beginnings

Bubba.

William “Bubba” Hines is a New Orleans native who made the journey to Santa Barbara all for a love of Burgundian-style Pinot Noir.

Starting as a student and before the first bottle was released, he interned at Domaine de la Côte, took 28 soil samples across Drum Canyon, mapped sun exposure and clone placement block by block, and made six vintages without releasing a single one. Not until he was ready to produce something genuinely Burgundian in character.

our symbol

southern cross.

Rather than being guided by the stars, the Hines family found their purpose beneath them.

The Southern Cross is the organizing principle of William Hines Wines, a symbol rooted in Southern heritage, faith, and a 365 day commitment to winemaking and farming governed by season and cycle.

Its four points correspond to the four Pinot Noir cuvées and their positions on Drum Canyon Vineyard: La Mer to the East, Huit to the North, Envie to the South, Careaga to the West.

On each label, a cardinal direction is illuminated in gold, telling you exactly where you are.

The Family.

Bubba and his wife Donna, married forty years, built all of this alongside their three children, Billy, Christopher, and Meredith, their spouses, and a growing generation of grandchildren.

The long-term vision is exactly what it looks like: a generational endeavor, passed to the family that comes next.
